Developing you

Our approach to Learning & Development is:

• to address needs relating to skills and knowledge required for the job / role an individual currently holds
• to encourage our people to take responsibility for their own development
• to address any needs associated with our Competency Framework
• to develop people for future growth

We actively support the Government's philosophy of "Lifelong Learning". In line with the direction and strategy of the Council, accredited training will be encouraged, either through formal academic or National Vocational Qualifications.

We recognise that learning doesn't only take place in classrooms and so will continue to offer learning and development using a variety of methods - including mentoring, coaching, web and computer based learning, books, videos, job shadowing and classroom based learning. We will continue to benchmark what we offer against the best that other councils and private sector companies give to their people so that we can provide the same or better.

This wide variety of approaches aims to ensure that each individual's preferred learning style is taken into consideration, that options available take account of the equality and diversity needs of delegates as well as maximising our people's access to learning opportunities irrespective of when and where they work.
